ABOUT THE PRODUCT

The AMT PANGAEA VIRGIN CAB VC-16 is an IR cabinet simulator & guitar processor for individual practice, Live gigs, and recording.

As you know, the electric guitar tone is defined by many components, such as a guitar itself, an amp, a cabinet with speakers and a mic. The AMT Electronics PANGAEA VIRGIN CAB VC-16 can emulate the sound of any guitar cab: WAV Impulse Responses (IRs) are free or commercially available on the Web and can be easily loaded to the VC-16 via USB.

CONNECTION TO A COMPUTER

There are two different Modes of working the VC-16 while connecting to a computer via USB data cable (USB MINI B → USB TYPE A).

⚡️ Mode 1 (USB Drive)

How to enter and work on this mode:

  1. Be sure that the VC-16 is NOT POWERED by a power supply at all!
  2. Connect the VC-16 to your computer via USB data cable (USB MINI B → USB TYPE A).
  3. The operating system of the computer identifies the VC-16 as a regular USB Flash Drive, so you'll see all the files & folder structure of the VC-16 and able to work with them (for example, to update the firmware version here if needed).

⚡️ Mode 2 (Serial Port)

How to enter and work on this mode:

  1. Connect the VC-16 to the power supply 12V DC and power on it.
  2. The USB data cable (USB MINI B → USB TYPE A) connect to the VC-16 and then to free USB port of your computer.
  3. The operating system of the computer identifies the VC-16 as a USB serial port (USB COM). In this mode, you can control all settings of your VC-16 by a special desktop version of the «AMT Pangaea CP-PA» Application (compatible with Windows OS / macOS / Linux OS):

FEATURES

  • The AMT Pangaea VC-16 lets you emulate any Guitar Cabinet sounding by loading appropriate Guitar Cabinets’ Impulse Responses (IRs). A great amount of different IRs you can easily find on the Internet (both paid and free).
  • You can load up to 16 different Guitar Cabinets’ IRs in the device's memory, choose the desired IR one at the right moment and control its parameters via USB interfaces.
  • There are Windows / macOS / Linux Applications developed by AMT for controls all possible settings of the AMT Pangaea device via USB. This App allows converting WAV IR's files to the Pangaea's required format «on the fly» (by «drag & drop» method).
  • In the special VC-16 input «AUX IN» you can put some external source of a sound signal (for example, an MP3 player / your smartphone) and play along with a phonogram selected by you. That's perfect for the independent practice!
  • The VC-16's main outputs can be used either in balanced or unbalanced modes.
  • The VC-16 Pangaea has a special slot at the bottom surface to provide a full compatibility with all other UBR Platform based pedals, which lets you combine all equipment in the easily controllable complex.
  • The input attenuator lets you use the VC-16 not only with line-level signals but with power amps* output signals as well.

    Examples of attenuator’s usage:

    ✔️ 0 dB → preamp (-10 dBV ~ 0 dBu)
    ✔️-24 dB → Power Amp (3 W, 8 Ohm / 2 W, 16 Ohm)
    ✔️-28 dB → Power Amp (8 W, 8 Ohm / 5.5 W, 16 Ohm)
    ✔️-32 dB → Power Amp (20 W, 8 Ohm / 14 W, 16 Ohm)
    ✔️-36 dB → Power Amp (50 W, 8 Ohm / 35 W, 16 Ohm)
    ✔️-40 dB → Power Amp (130 W, 8 Ohm / 95 W, 16 Ohm)

     ATTENTION! IMPORTANT!  The VC-16 is not a load equivalent, not in any form! While connecting a tube amplifier* (or a tube power amp) to the VC-16, you must use a real guitar cabinet or a special load box as the load equivalent!

* To connect power amp to the VC-16the Y-shaped speaker cable must be used

► STRUCTURE & EFFECTS OF THE VC-16

The user’s interface of the VC-16 is structured as 4 banks of 4 presets (16 presets in total). You can choose any bank & preset for each «A» and «B» set by special switchers on the main panel of the VC-16 (like one in the «A» set will be for the Clean channel, another one in the «B» set — for the Drive channel of the external preamp).

A separate impulse response of a guitar cabinet can be loaded into each preset.

The software allows you to implement effects and functions:

  • [NG] — Noise Gate;
  • [CM] — Compressor;
  • [PR] — Preamp (clean channel);
  • [PA] — Power Amp — emulates the sound of one of 15 tube guitar power amplifiers:
    • 01. PP 6L6 — Typical Push-Pull Power Amplifier w/ 6L6 Tubes
    • 02. PP EL34 — Typical Push-Pull Power Amplifier w/ EL34 Tubes
    • 03. SE 6L6 — Typical Single-Ended Power Amplifier w/ 6L6 Tubes
    • 04. SE EL34 — Typical Single-Ended Power Amplifier w/ EL34 Tubes
    • 05. AMT TC-3 — Based on AMT Electronics® TubeCake TC-3®
    • 06. CALIF (California) — Based on Mesa/Boogie® Dual Rectifier®
    • 07. BRIT M (British M) — Based on Marshall® JCM-800®
    • 08. BRIT L (British L) — Based on Laney® LC50 II 112 Combo®
    • 09. DEFAULT — (Linear Frequency Response)
    • 10. CALIF MOD —Based on Mesa/Boogie®
    • 11. CALIF VINT — Based on Mesa/Boogie®
    • 12. PVH 01 — Based on Peavey 6505® (with settings: Presence=0, Resonance=0)
    • 13. PVH 02 — Based on Peavey 6505® (with settings: Presence=5, Resonance=5)
    • 14. PVH 03 — Based on Peavey 6505® (with settings: Presence=8, Resonance=7)
    • 15. PVH 04 — Based on Peavey 6505® (with settings: Presence=9, Resonance=8)
  • [IR] — Impulse Response;
  • [EQ1 + LPF&HPF] — Equalizer 1 (the first 5-band parametric equalizer in the chain with a full-fledged graphical implementation of LPF and HPF filters);
  • [EQ2 + LPF&HPF] — Equalizer 2 (an additional 5-band parametric equalizer in the circuit with a full-fledged graphical implementation of LPF and HPF filters);
  • [TR] — Tremolo;
  • [CH] — Chorus;
  • [PH] — Phaser;
  • [DL] — Delay;
  • [ER] — Early Reflections (mono / stereo modes);
  • [PV] — Preset volume.

All these functions are configured and executed for each preset separately.

 NOTE!  The Desktop Application gives the ability to drag existing effect blocks to any place in the guitar signal formation chain.

 IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE POWER SUPPLY

For powering the AMT devices always use specialized power supplies originally designed for guitar pedals & gear meeting the following basic requirements:

Please, don't try to use for these purposes the usual cheapest power supply from household appliances and electronics, like from your laptop, Wi-Fi router, etc.! Such power supplies have a reverse polarity compared to AMT devices, so it won't work! Even if you're «the guy was born with a soldering iron in the hand» and almost ready to change a polarity of such power supply — we strongly not recommend you do that!

Those kinds of power supplies are not intended for using with the guitar gear. Otherwise, you'll get a problematic very noisy guitar sound full of «hum», «cheep», and other sound «effects»!
