► Main features of the AMT R3 Light preamp
The AMT R3 Light is a compact single-channel preamp of a new generation that accurately emulates the Red channel of one of the most popular high-gain «Rectifier» amplifiers from «Mesa/Boogie» as the standard of modern heavy metal sound for any self-respecting team!
► More about the AMT R3 Light Preamp
- It has a small stainless steel case with modern technology for printing functional labels;
- It has a number of unique properties typical of tube preamps and amplifiers;
- the structure of the circuits fully corresponds to the original tube;
- It provides the dynamics of the game and the sensations characteristic of fully tube devices;
- It has a spectrum of limitation as close as possible to the lamp spectrum;
- It is single-channel and has a standard set of adjustments: 3-band tone control, sensitivity and output level;
- An analog modern cabsim module is installed in the preamp inside;
- It has a universal «OUTPUT» and can operate in several modes determined by the position of the switches: Preamp/Drive, CabSim ON/OFF, BYPASS Active/Passive.
Tech talk about AMT Legend Amps 3 Light (single channel preamp series)
This is absolutely new series of preamps, developed as a result of many years of research and improvement of approaches to guitar sound formation, which have been successfully used by the company's engineers for more than 10 years. The series is based on a new technology of analog modeling, which emulates the physical processes occurring in real vacuum devices during guitar signal processing.
The implementation of the preamp channels in the series is as consistent as possible with real tube devices. This results in the formation of a limitation structure, dynamics, and spectrum that almost completely match the preamps of the original tube amplifiers.
As a confirmation of the above, using the example of the characteristics of the original legendary Peavey 5150 guitar amplifier, AMT engineers provide a corresponding graph (see Fig. 1), from where it can be seen with the naked eye that the sinusoids of red and green coincide literally «one into one», actually overlapping each other. At the same time, it is clearly visible how significantly the blue sine wave responsible for displaying the emulation behavior of this very amplifier in the form of an AMT P2 device (LA2 series preamp) differs from the first two.
Fig. 1. Device operation comparison diagram:
- the red color displays the behavior of the Tube Peavey 5150;
- the blue color — overloaded AMT P2 channel;
-
the green color — AMT P3 Light (looking under the red → that's almost a complete match!).
All this means one thing: the new analog modeling technology used in the AMT LA3 Light range of devices accurately emulates the physical processes occurring in real vacuum devices during guitar signal processing.
AMT LA3 Light operating modes with analog cabsim on board
► Connection diagram for «P1» mode
This mode is designed to play «into the Return» / directly to the Power Amp of a third-party guitar amplifier (combo).
► Connection diagram for «P2» mode
This mode is designed for playing when connected directly to one or a pair of the real guitar cabinets.
► Connection diagram for «P3» mode
This mode is designed for full guitar sound, ready to be fed into the linear/balanced input of the mixing console or headphones (8-32 Ohm).
► Connection diagram for «D1» mode
This mode is designed to connect the AMT LA3 pedal to the «INPUT» of a clean guitar amp channel (combo) or the Clean channel of another preamp as a regular guitar overdrive pedal.
Additional functionality of the AMT LA3 Light
The new LA3 Light series of devices is also inherited from the AMT Bricks line of preamps with flexible pedal switching capabilities without using third-party switches.
In practice, this means that any LA3 Light preamps can be used not only as separate devices, but also as a group of preamps connected in a serial chain (via the audio path and via the control connectors CTRL A and CTRL B).
In the second case, turning on any preamp in the circuit will turn off the remaining preamps, that is, to switch to the «TRUE BYPASS» mode (provided that the «BYPASS» switch is in the «Passive» position).
Thus, without using any external devices, it is possible to implement a kind of «multi-channel preamp system» consisting of almost any reasonable number of devices of the LA3 Light and Bricks lines, switched between each other according to the «one of» principle.
The LA3 Light preamps can also be used in conjunction with other AMT Bricks devices as part of the AMT UBR PB-3 pedalboard platform.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE POWER SUPPLY
For powering the AMT devices always use specialized power supplies originally designed for guitar pedals & gear meeting the following basic requirements:
Please, don't try to use for these purposes the usual cheapest power supply from household appliances and electronics, like from your laptop, Wi-Fi router, etc.! Such power supplies have a reverse polarity compared to AMT devices, so it won't work! Even if you're «the guy was born with a soldering iron in the hand» and almost ready to change a polarity of such power supply — we strongly not recommend you do that!
Those kinds of power supplies are not intended for using with the guitar gear. Otherwise, you'll get a problematic very noisy guitar sound full of «hum», «cheep», and other sound «effects»!
